Raleigh Man Faces Several Criminal Charges After Chase

A Raleigh man faces several charges after allegedly attempting to hit an officer with his car, then leading police on an extended chase before finally crashing.  Kasim Miller, 38, faces charges that include assault with a deadly weapon on a government official, fleeing in a motor vehicle to elude arrest, hit and run, resisting, delaying or obstructing a law enforcement officer, and drug charges.

Officers were first called to 9400 block of Glenwood Avenue in Raleigh around 3:30 p.m. in response to a suspicious person call. According to reports, when they arrived, Miller tried to hit an officer with his vehicle, and then fled the scene. About half an hour later Miller allegedly struck an SUV in the 8500 block of Ray Road, ran off the road, and crashed into a tree. He attempted to flee on foot but was arrested and taken to Wake County Jail.

No one in the SUV that Miller struck during the chase was hurt, but an officer who was coming to assist in the chase reportedly suffered minor injuries when he crashed his police vehicle en route. The State Highway Patrol and the Wake County Sheriff’s Department were called to help with the chase.

The drug charges Miller faces include possession with intent to sell or deliver cocaine, possession with intent to sell or deliver marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia. In addition, once police ran his record they discovered outstanding warrants on charges of violating a protective order, assault on a female, false imprisonment and making harassing phone calls.

Miller has previously served a three-year prison sentence, and has 16-year criminal record including convictions for drug trafficking, child abuse and assault inflicting serious bodily injury.
